It could even go as far as bouncing changes in one automatically through all the others.

But the increasing number of products like Rekord Buddy shows us that a time will come where there will be one product (that should be called Unity or Conduit or Ultimate DJ Library Translator Pro) that will allow you to repurpose your lovingly crafted library into another format at the press of a button. It’s not like the Traktor Library offers anything radical over the Rekordbox, Serato, VDJ or any other library for that matter. Ultimately, they all provide the same end result, deployed in more or less the same way.

REKORD BUDDY TAGS SOFTWARE

I understand why different software companies use their own libraries, but it’s not good for the end user. 6 different software libraries - 6 different and hostile formats. Well right now it is anyway - most things are just a matter of time. You’ll still have to generate waveforms internally of course, as that kind of thing is beyond the scope of data translation. You can choose tracks, playlists or whole libraries, and also decide exactly what metadata to shift across as well, including beat grids. This doesn’t appear to be some half -arsed conversion either. But what Rekord Buddy promises is a smooth 2-way conversion between Traktor and Rekordbox. Trying not going to re-rant over old ground again, but my core issue is that unless you use the basic library tools afforded to you by Apple’s iTunes, you have to commit wholeheartedly to a particular piece of software with little in the way of translation, other than the handful of 3rd party library wranglers. A Good to VG- cover has ring wear to the point of distraction, has seem splits obvious on sight and may have even heavier writing, such as huge radio station letters across the front. My displeasure with the plethora of library formats is well known, but it seems that Next Audio Lab’s Rekord Buddy may well smash down at least one wall - the one between Traktor and Rekordbox - with some style, provided you’re on a Mac. But it has significant surface noise and groove wear, and the label is worn, with significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers. Good does not mean bad! The record still plays through without skipping, so it can serve as filler until something better comes along.

Good (G), Good Plus (G+) or Very Good Minus (VG-) Someone might have written on it or stamped a price tag on it. Seam splitting will be more obvious it may appear on all three sides, though it won't be obvious upon looking. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. VG covers will have many signs of human handling. Minor writing, tape, or a sticker can detract from the label. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise. When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and ending. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking. A VG+ cover may have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. Minor signs of handling are OK, too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, but repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. Slight warps that do not affect sound are okay. NM covers have no creases, ringwear or seam splits of any kind.Ī good description of a VG+ record is "except for a couple minor things, this would be NM." VG+ records may show some alight signs of wear, including light scoffs and very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. If played, it will do so without "surface noise". Writing, stickers or other markings cannot appear on the label, nor can any "spindle marks" from someone trying to put the record on the turntable. NM records are shiny, with no visible defects. This grade is rarely used.Ī good description of a NM record is "it looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the first time". These are absolutely perfect in every way. I am usually pretty conservative in my grading to ensure you get something better than described! I have listed as many flaws as I could with each album.
